never shout

assalamualaikum wbt

never shout, the lower voice is heard better

a reminder for me, because i know this, but still can't apply it well enough (in chinese kung fu stories, having a booming voice means the character has a strong and rich inner strength.. :p)

now I empathise with some of the Russians who were perceived as either rude or brash by us Malaysians, but as i got to know them better, it's only their voice is that much louder, and to them raising your voice when speaking out is normal and doenst need a retort (in most cases, unless I'm the one preceiving it wrongly)

the only remedy i found to stop the ensuing bickering (which Alhamdulillah, is not that often, though at the time this post is written it might have happende recently) is to keep my voice lower even if the other side has started picking up a fight. miraculously this works, but my own temper needs to be in check.

I'm in my surgical rotation, and I've seen how the surgeons here, with their own professional opinions, stick to what they believe in, while arguing with the other surgeons.I guess when you make life-dependent decisions on a daily basis, you'l have to have that kind of confidence, to be reliable. but almost all the time, the arguments will suddenly stop, with the decision up to each other. i guess their purpose was only to better themselves and their colleagues, and as long as there's no big medical mistake, or anything, it's never a big deal.in the end they respected each other's opinion and let the responsible surgeon disembowel the patient however he wants,or however the higher ranking surgeon wants.

another thing is to acknowledge when you're wrong -this is hard.

next time i find myself at odds with anyone, i'll try to remember to keep calm, lower my voice, acknowledge anything the other party is right, and focus on what's really important at hand, insyaAllah.

an old picture, amputating the right ankle (not really sure which part exactly)

in one month's time we'll have our mcqs, then final exams in june..
